M.Sc. in Clinical Microbiology (M. Sc. Cl. Microbiology)

  • Introduction
The scope of infectious disease diagnostics and molecular microbiology in laboratory medicine
has expanded exponentially. There is a high demand for clinical microbiology experts to
maintain technical expertise, combat antimicrobial resistance, and provide consultative skills in
    the medical laboratory profession.
There is an emerging need for specialized professionals in health laboratory services, academic
institutions, and research fields both in Nepal and globally to strengthen diagnostic practices.
With the increasing number of graduates and limited local opportunities for specialization,
expanding Master’s studies in Clinical Microbiology is essential to meet responsibilities in
diagnostics, medical academics, and public health research.
    Learning Environment
The course is a full-time residential training program conducted in the well-equipped, state-of-
the-art Clinical Laboratory setup at Manmohan Memorial Teaching Hospital, Swayambhu,
    Kathmandu.
    Objectives
The primary goal of the M.Sc. Clinical Microbiology program is to:
Develop graduate expertise in clinical microbiology and infectious disease diagnostics for
the management of health laboratory services.
Carry out quality research, contribute to diagnostic innovation, and provide high-quality
    medical laboratory services.
Enhance the medical education system by training students in quality laboratory services
    and management through evidence-based practices.
Serve society by providing healthcare and academic services in the discipline of clinical
microbiology as a vital part of laboratory diagnosis. Promote personnel advancement to strengthen health policies and practices regarding
    infectious diseases and laboratory medicine.
Strengthen the Total Laboratory Quality Management System as recommended by the
    MoHP Nepal and WHO.

Ensure national health strategies and health security through high-quality laboratory
